Mercury Retrograde 2018

Enjoy your period of peace and quiet while you can because the first Mercury Retrograde period in 2018 will start next Thursday, March 8, bringing with it the usual headhaches, frustration, and chaos.

Because Mercury (the planet of communication, thoughts, and travel) is the planet situated closest to the Sun, its orbit is much shorter than the Earth’s. Three, maybe four times a year, Mercury speeds past the Earth, and that is when we experience a Mercury Retrograde period. An example of this is if you were in a car and another car passed you, you could tell it was going faster than you. But, if it slowed down and you then passed it, it would appear that the car was actually going backwards. Then, when the other car speeds up and passes you again, it is like a train flying past, creating a powerful, turbulent gust of wind in its wake. The turbulence and disruption Mercury creates when it is Retrograde can affect what we feel on Earth in our everyday lives.

Mercury will start its Pre-Shadow Retrograde period March 8 through March 22; in Retrograde March 23 though April 14; and the Post-Shadow Retrograde period ends on May 3. In the sign of Aries (firey energies, boldness, impulsions) there may be more drama, childish behavior in those who don’t get their way, and a deeper connection in the areas we are most passionate about.

If you have started something BEFORE Mercury Retrograde, it should turn out okay.

Towards the end of the above period, Mercury has reached a place in its orbit when it begins to move in the same direction as the Earth around the Sun. And so should we: supporting new directions and explorations that have wandered away from our previously dry beliefs and stale relationships.
